Yugmee Gidiya is a senior at New York University Abu Dhabi, majoring in Engineering with a minor in Environmental Studies. She has been part of the UAE delegation to COP28, COP29 and COP30, hosting panels on Circular Economy and Waste Reduction at the UAE Pavilion and contributed to Youth Engagement Workshops on carbon footprinting and behavioral change. She has represented NYUAD at the Student Energy Summit and LCOY UAE, and has led campus sustainability efforts as Chair of the Student Government Sustainability Committee and President of Green House, as well as through her research roles in the Plastic Recycling Lab and Office of Sustainability, contributing to initiatives from plastic phaseout to the university's Climate Action Plan. As an intern with CEBC MENA (Clean Energy Business Council MENA), she collaborated with various organisations in the UAE to successfully organise WETEX 2024 (The World Expo for Energy, Water, and Environment Technology). At Genify, a fintech company based at HUB71, Yugmee developed a Carbon Footprint Calculator based on individual transactions for banks and presented it at the COP28 Techsprint as one of the top 10 finalists. Her passion for sustainability led her to the Zayed Sustainability Prize, where she presented her project 'JSSPS Medicament Oasis.' At Urban Future Lab in New York, she supported climate-tech innovation through high-impact events and partnerships across initiatives such as Carbon2Value and the Offshore Wind Innovation Hub.
